Volvo Penta D1-30 Oil Change & Oil Filter Replacement Guide

Tools Needed

• Vacuum pump with dipstick tube attachment
• Socket wrench (for oil filter)
• Funnel
• Soft drink bottle or similar for refilling oil
• Gloves and rags

Safety

• Ensure engine is cool before starting the procedure to avoid burns.
• Be careful not to drop the oil filter, as it can cause injury or damage.

Steps

1. Remove the dipstick from the engine.
2. Attach the dipstick tube to the vacuum pump and suck out the old oil through the dipstick hole.
3. Loosen and remove the oil filter by hand using a socket wrench if needed.
4. Clean the oil filter mounting area with a rag and some oil to loosen any smeared residue.
5. Apply a small amount of new engine oil around the gasket of the new oil filter.
6. Hand-tighten the new oil filter onto the engine, ensuring it's snug but not overtightened.
7. Refill the engine with new oil using a funnel and the soft drink bottle to control the flow.
8. Check the dipstick regularly during refilling to avoid overfilling.
9. Once the correct oil level is reached, replace the dipstick.
10. Check the gearbox oil level and condition if the boat is out of the water; drain and refill if necessary.

Tips

• Use an oil absorbent mat to catch any spills during the procedure.
• Be patient when draining the old oil from the galleries as it may take time to fully drain.
• Always check your engine manual for specific oil type, capacity, and filter part number recommendations.
