Safety

• Always carefully bend the tabs down to prevent the lock nut from moving.
• Ensure the motor is turned off before inspecting or replacing parts.

Steps

1. Remove the propeller by bending down the tabs and unscrewing the lock nut.
2. Remove the four bolts on the lower leg and the two on the other side to drop the lower leg.
3. Remove the trim tab if necessary to access hidden bolts.
4. Loosen and remove all bolts to access the gear spindle shaft.
5. Clean the area around the shaft and remove the old impeller.
6. Inspect the impeller for bends; if bent, replace it.
7. Apply a bit of Maring grease to the key before replacing it.
8. Replace the backing plate and impeller, ensuring they are new parts.
9. Apply Mercury grease 24c to the bolt heads and around the base of the backing plate.
10. Insert the new impeller, turning it anticlockwise to ensure proper alignment.
11. Use a screwdriver to push the drive back until it lines up and drops into place.
12. Tighten all bolts and reassemble the motor leg.

• Keep the old impeller as a spare if it is still in good condition.
• Ensure the impeller is flexible enough to push water through effectively.
• Clean and grease the water traps to prevent salt buildup.
