Is this used boat fairly priced?
The same boat is listed at asking prices 25% apart. And 12% of the listings we re-read in the last 90 days had their price cut by 5% or more — a median cut of 11%. Before you make an offer: enter make, model and year, and see where this listing sits in the market.

How we check the price
- Comparable listings, not book values — We read more than 320,000 live listings across the European used-boat market and compare your model with the same model — not with an estimate.
- Median, not average — One overpriced listing does not move the median. You also see the middle half of the market, not a single number.
- Year held fixed — With the build year held fixed, asking prices for the same model still sit 21–25% apart. That gap is your negotiating room.
- Price cuts are tracked — Every listing is compared with its own earlier price. 12% were cut by 5% or more in the last 90 days; only 1% went up.
Three examples from the data
| Model | Comparable listings | Median asking price | Cut by 5% or more | Median cut |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bavaria Cruiser 46 | 456 | €149,500 | 65 (14%) | 10% |
| Lagoon 40 | 322 | €295,000 | 65 (20%) | 11% |
| Axopar 28 Cabin | 179 | €125,190 | 24 (13%) | 8% |
What you can negotiate
Of the listings whose price we tracked over time, some were cut — for the Bavaria Cruiser 46, 65 of 456 comparable listings, by a median of 10%. That does not tell you what your boat must cost. It tells you how often and how far sellers of this model have already lowered their price — and that is the argument you bring to the table. We always compare asking price with asking price; we do not have sale prices.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a used boat worth?
As much as comparable boats are currently listed for — by model, year, engine hours and equipment. Our price guides show the median per build year for each model; the tool above works it out for your model.
What does a pre-purchase survey cost?
For the UK we have a measured range of 448–720 £ for a pre-purchase survey by an independent surveyor. We have no measured range for other countries. A price check does not replace a survey: it tells you whether the price is right, not whether the boat is.
How much value does a boat lose per year?
It depends heavily on the model. Our price-by-year tables show the median for each build year, and the depreciation guide explains the curve.
Do I still need a surveyor?
Yes — for any boat that costs more than you could afford to write off. We check the price against the market. Hull, engine and rig are checked by a surveyor on site.
Where do the numbers come from?
From asking prices on European boat portals that we keep re-reading — 244,000 listings in the last 90 days. We do not have sale prices; every figure on this page is an asking price. Updated 21 October 2026.
