Honda BF225 Impeller Replacement Guide

Tools Needed

• 14mm Ratcheting Wrench
• 12mm Socket or Wrench
• Dead Blow Hammer (optional)
• Razor Blade
• Wire Brush Attachment for Drill
• 30mm Socket

Safety

• Wear gloves to protect your hands from sharp edges and chemicals.
• Work in a well-ventilated area when using lubricants and cleaners.

Steps

1. Remove the six bolts securing the lower unit to the motor, using a 14mm wrench.
2. Unscrew the 19mm locking nut underneath the center bolt cover.
3. Gently tap the lower unit with a dead blow hammer if needed to remove it from the motor.
4. Remove the four bolts securing the water pump housing, using a 12mm socket or wrench.
5. Pry off the old impeller and its metal collar, working side to side to release any corrosion.
6. Inspect the old impeller for cracks; replace if necessary.
7. Clean the inside of the new plastic housing with XPS anti-corrosive lubricant.
8. Install the new impeller into the housing, ensuring the fingers match the curve of the housing.
9. Place the o-ring around the impeller shaft.
10. Install the metal plate onto the housing, ensuring it's properly seated and sealed.
11. Grease the O-rings on the new oil/water seal and press them into place using a 30mm socket.

Tips

• Consider replacing the entire water pump housing assembly if the old one is pitted or damaged.
• Inspect all seals and replace as needed to prevent water from entering the gear case.
