Yamaha F115 Water Pump Impeller Replacement

Tools Needed

• 14mm socket wrench
• 12mm socket wrench
• Screwdriver
• Chisel
• Dowel pins
• Wire brush
• Hammer
• Crack torch

Safety

• Be careful not to break the speedometer pickup.
• Avoid touching hot parts with bare hands.

Steps

1. Remove the seven 14mm bolts from the gear case, three on each side and one in the center.
2. Carefully drop the gear case, avoiding damage to the speedometer pickup.
3. Inspect the water pump housing and remove the 12mm bolts.
4. Remove the drive shaft collar and nylon bushing using a crack torch to heat and loosen them.
5. Scrape out any remaining nylon from the bushing bore using a screwdriver.
6. Use dowel pins to pry up the water pump housing, avoiding gasket surfaces.
7. Remove the impeller and the wave washer assembly on top of it.
8. Gently pry up the woodruff key using a disposable chisel.
9. Inspect the drive shaft oil seal and the damper seal assembly for any signs of damage or leaks.
10. Clean and resurface the aluminum casing and the damper seal bracket using a wire brush and chisel.
11. Prepare the water pump kit for installation, replacing any necessary parts.

Tips

• Greasing the drive shaft bushing can prevent future issues.
• Inspect the spring around the edge of the oil seal for any signs of damage.
• If the spring is broken, it may be time to reseal the upper bearing carrier.
• Any holes or damage to the steel bracket of the damper seal assembly require replacement.
