Yamaha F250 Outboard Oil and Filter Service Guide

Tools Needed

• 14mm socket wrench
• Oil filter wrench
• Garden hose (for warming up the motor)
• Oil catch pan
• Rags or shop towels
• Step ladder (optional, for taller outboards)

Safety

• Wear appropriate clothing and safety glasses when working on your outboard.
• Be cautious of hot engine parts when starting and running the motor.

Steps

1. Warm up the outboard by running it with a garden hose connected to it.
2. Remove the oil drain cover screws and pull off the cover.
3. Using a 14mm socket wrench, loosen and remove the oil drain bolt, allowing the old oil to drain into the catch pan.
4. Reach from the front of the motor to locate and remove the oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
5. Clean up any spilled oil with rags or shop towels.
6. Fill the crankcase with 4 quarts of new oil, then start the engine and run it for a few minutes.
7. Check the oil level again and add more oil if necessary to reach the full mark (5.1 quarts total capacity).
8. Replace the oil drain cover and tighten the screws securely.
9. Inspect the area around the oil filter for any leaks, and clean up any spilled oil.

Tips

• Use a Yamaha-specific oil change kit for the F250 four-stroke to ensure you have the correct amount of oil and the right filter.
• Check the plastic cover over the flywheel and cams for debris or dirt diver nests, and remove it every once in a while for inspection.
