Yanmar 2GM20 Oil & Filter Change

Tools Needed

• Vacuum oil pump
• Rigid tube
• Oil filter wrench or socket
• Rag or paper towel
• New oil filter
• Dipstick
• Funnel (optional)

Safety

• Ensure the engine is warm before starting.
• Be cautious when handling hot parts.

Steps

1. Warm up the engine by running it at high idle for about 10 minutes.
2. Open the panel to access the dipstick and check oil levels.
3. Remove the dipstick, insert the rigid tube down the dipstick hole, loosen the oil cap on top, and start pumping out old oil with a vacuum pump.
4. When you hear gurgling sounds, it indicates most of the oil has been removed.
5. Pull the tube straight up and add a few pumps to ensure all oil is extracted.
6. Place a rag under the drain hole to catch any remaining drips.
7. Remove the old oil filter by hand or with an oil filter wrench.
8. Clean the area around the filter to prevent spills.
9. Apply a small amount of old oil to lubricate the new filter's seal.
10. Screw on the new filter hand-tight, ensuring it is properly seated without cross-threading.
11. Check for any leaks after running the engine briefly.
12. Lubricate the throttle and stop cables with a light spray or wipe.
13. Add oil to the crankcase, starting with one quart, then check the dipstick level.
14. If needed, add another half quart of oil and recheck the dipstick.

• Warm up the engine first to ensure proper oil draining.
• Use a rag under the drain hole to catch any remaining drips.
• Apply old oil to the new filter's seal for easier installation.
• Check for leaks after running the engine briefly.
