Oil and Oil Filter Change on a Honda BF150A

Tools Needed

• 12mm Ratchet Wrench
• Funnel
• Shop Towels or Rags
• Parts Cleaner (Break and Parts Cleaner)
• Oil Filter Wrench (optional, but helpful for tight filters)
• Silver Sharpie

Safety

• Wear appropriate clothing to protect against oil spills.
• Ensure the engine is cool before starting the procedure.

Steps

1. Remove the oil cap on top of the motor.
2. Place a container under the drain plug at the bottom of the motor.
3. Use a 12mm ratchet wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug.
4. Allow the old oil to drain completely (about 5-10 minutes).
5. Wipe the area around the drain hole with shop towels or rags.
6. Reinstall and tighten the drain plug by hand, then torque it to 18 ft-lbs using a wrench.
7. Clean the oil fill hole on top of the motor with parts cleaner and shop towels.
8. Add 7.1 quarts (or slightly less than two gallons) of fresh oil through the oil fill hole using a funnel.
9. Remove the old oil filter by hand or using an oil filter wrench, turning counterclockwise.
10. Wipe the area around the oil filter with shop towels to remove any residual oil.
11. Apply a thin coat of new oil around the rubber gasket of the new oil filter using your finger.
12. Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it's snug, then give it an additional 3/4 to 1 turn (do not overtighten).
13. Wipe any remaining oil from the area with shop towels.
14. Check the oil level using the dipstick and add more oil if necessary.
15. Mark the date and hours on the new oil filter with a silver sharpie for future reference.

Tips

• Use a container with a wide mouth and a secure lid to catch the old oil, making it easier to dispose of later.
• Consider wearing gloves during the procedure to protect your hands from oil.
• Always dispose of used oil responsibly, following local regulations.
